Our Report highlights our commitment to our customers, people and the planet.

Today, Metro Supply Chain is proud to release our second annual Sustainability Report, capturing our progress from January to December 2024. This report reflects on half a century of impact while showcasing our continued progress toward our sustainability goals. It highlights the initiatives, achievements and stories we are most proud of, building on the foundation laid in our inaugural report in 2023.

What began in 1974 as a single 100,000-square-foot warehouse in Montreal has evolved into Canada’s largest supply chain solutions company. What sets us apart is how we’ve grown. While scaling internationally, we have stayed grounded locally, empowering our sites to drive change where it matters most. Many of our most meaningful initiatives have been born at the site level, where teams work side-by-side with customers, respond to the unique needs of their communities, and act quickly to create lasting impact.

In 2024, this approach was strengthened by the transformative acquisition of SCI Group Inc. This milestone expanded our scale, capabilities and reach, positioning us to accelerate progress toward our sustainability goals and deliver even greater value across our supply chain and beyond. As we grow, so does our responsibility, and we are committed to using that influence to drive sustainability forward, together.

At Metro Supply Chain, sustainability is embedded across every part of our business and every link of our supply chain. This is why we organize our sustainability efforts around our four strategic focus areas, with innovation serving as the catalyst that drives progress across them all. Here are some highlights of our achievements in 2024:

OUR WORLD – GREENING LOGISTICS

We are rethinking our operations to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources and protect the ecosystems we depend on.

  • Added 10 new electric vehicles, expanding our EV fleet to 16
  • Launched our Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) readiness assessment
  • Expanded Scope 3 measurement across all our operations
  • Achieved a 40% reduction in emissions from our owned last-mile fleet (target: 20% reduction)
  • Embedded waste and recycling tracking in 67% of all new waste management contracts
  • Implemented two honeybee projects at key sites to support local biodiversity

OUR TEAM – EMPOWERING PEOPLE

We are fostering a culture where every team member feels safe, supported and able to thrive.

  • Delivered 13,000 hours of health and safety education
  • 72% of facilities achieved zero lost-time injuries
  • Delivered 650+ hours of mental health awareness training to 200 leaders
  • Reached 86% participation in our first voluntary diversity identification survey (target: 70%)
  • 48% of employees identify as part of a diverse group
  • Completed 1,700+ hours of LinkedIn Learning across 1,200+ courses

OUR COMPANY – LEADING RESPONSIBLY

Strong governance, ethics and transparency underpin everything we do.

  • 100% of our team is aware of our anti-modern slavery policy
  • Achieved 85% participation in our employee survey (target: 75%)
  • CEO-led sustainability governance with company-wide metrics and annual public reporting
  • Independent Board oversight with quarterly reviews of financial, compliance and sustainability performance
  • Clear leadership roles and controls through defined authority levels and separation between the Board and Executive decision-making.

OUR CUSTOMER – INNOVATING TOGETHER

We continue to collaborate with our forward-thinking customers to challenge the status quo and drive innovation across the logistics industry.

  • Co-developed a fully emission-free delivery model with a major retailer to reduce emissions and enhance community wellbeing
  • Optimized loads with regional carriers to boost efficiency, improve inbound freight and lessen environmental impact
  • Helped customers with their sustainability goals through electrified material-handling equipment, packaging recycling and optimized delivery routes

DELIVERING VALUE ACROSS OUR SUPPLY CHAIN AND IN OUR COMMUNITIES

We also recognize that our responsibility extends beyond our direct value chain and into the communities where we live and work. In 2024, our community support grew significantly, reflecting our commitment to building stronger, healthier and more equitable societies.

  • Raised $655,000+ for local charities, supporting food security, health and equity across our communities
  • Strengthened communities globally through company-wide partnerships and locally led initiatives that reflect unique needs and empower our teams
  • Drove meaningful impact with decentralized giving that built authentic local relationships and deepened employee engagement
  • Focused on priority areas (youth, hunger, health and advancing women) aligned with the UN SDGs to maximize long-term social value

Moving forward, we are committed to advancing sustainability, championing innovation and living our people-first values across every link of our supply chain. Preparations for our 2025 Sustainability Report are already underway, and we look forward to continuing this momentum.
